International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global celebration on March 8th annually, it is a day to bring more attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women. IWD is commemorated in numerous forms all round the world; it is a public holiday in many countries, and marked socially or locally in others to celebrate, empower and promote the achievements of women round the globe.
Several governmental and non-governmental organization observes the holiday in connection with a specific issue, campaign, or theme in women’s rights and for the year 2023, the IWD is assigned the theme: DigiTALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality #Ebraceequity
Queen Luciano Foundation is one of the Organizations that would not let the international women’s day go without being celebrated and for the year 2023, the big occasion was held in grand style in Akure, the capital city of Ondo state at Royal Birds Hotel and Towers, Alagbaka.
Several women Organizations were in attendance to grace the occasion and in commemoration of this great day, beautiful and educative lectures were delivered on Entrepreneurship and women Empowerment using Technology by Dr. (Mrs) Daramola- Director, Center For Entrepreneur Federal University of Technology Akure and on the theme of the year DigiTALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality by Barr. (Mrs) Bolanle Afolabi, the Secretary of the state agency against gender based violence. Represented by Barr. (Mrs) Toba Olaifa.
The 2023 International Women’s Day commemoration was crowned beautifully by Queen Luciano Foundation with the empowerment of ten 10 women with the sum of fifty thousand naira each to support their small scale businesses. In line with the theme, DigiTALL: innovation and technology for gender equality; the beneficiaries were selected randomly across all the social media pages of the foundation. Both the participants and the beneficiaries express their joy as they got more information and contact persons to report any case of gender based violence and appropriate channels to get justice. They equally appreciated the foundation for providing such opportunity and sang praises of the founder who is a woman worth emulating.
