Imagine walking down the street without food, wondering where your next meal will come from. Also, picture a kind stranger giving you food and reminding you that you still have hope and are loved. This is the essence of World Kindness Day, a day to uplift others and care for those who need it most.

At the Queen Luciano Foundation, kindness has grown to be an act and a way of life. On the 2024 Kindness Day, the team celebrated it by taking to the streets of Akure and Benin City to share meals, money, and moments of hope with the less privileged. Our goal was to spread smiles and remind people of their worth in the world.

What Is World Kindness Day?

World Kindness Day is an annual event celebrated on November 13th that serves as a global reminder of the importance of empathy and compassion. It’s a day dedicated to simple acts of kindness that have the power to change lives. World Kindness Day encourages everyone to create positivity in their communities, whether helping a stranger, supporting a cause, or simply sharing a smile.

That is why the Queen Luciano Foundation team seized this opportunity to connect with some of society’s most vulnerable members: those who beg on the streets, often overlooked by passersby.

Why acts of kindness matter

The beauty of kindness lies in its simplicity. It doesn’t require grand action or large budgets to make a difference. A meal, a little token, a kind word, or even a smile can transform someone’s day or life.

Kind gestures benefit both the recipient and the giver. For the beneficiaries, kind gestures give them hope, relief, and a sense of belonging. And for the givers, acts of kindness foster empathy, strengthen community bonds and remind us of our shared humanity.

Sharing of warm meals and warm hearts in Akure streets

In Akure, the QLF vibrant team members assembled early in the morning, energised and ready to make a difference. The team prepared good food with care, making sure that every portion was nutritious and filling. With food packets and monetary gifts, we went into the streets where beggars often gather.

The response was overwhelming. The recipients’ faces lit up with gratitude as they collected their meals and money. For some of them, it wasn’t just about the food or money. It was about the thought; the kindness, the love and connection that came with them. This was followed by their heartfelt appreciation and words of prayers for the foundation.

The kindness drive in Benin City

The energy was as inspiring in Benin City. The Queen Luciano Foundation team went to various locations, armed with food and monetary gifts to share to the beggars on the street. The gesture was met with the same warm reception as the one seen in Akure. People expressed their appreciation not just for the gifts but for being seen and valued.

One of the beneficiaries revealed how this simple act of kindness gave them hope to push through and overcome life’s challenges. Another recipient also spoke about how the experience deepened their understanding of the power of giving. In both cities, the day became a testament to the impact of collective kindness.

The foundation’s vision and commitment to kindness

Queen Luciano Foundation is committed to spreading kindness both on World Kindness Day and every day. Our goals and vision remain a society where compassion is a commonplace. We work towards a society where everyone feels valued and supported.

The uniqueness of this year’s celebration in Akure and Benin City is a reminder of what can be achieved when we come together with a common goal. As we continue our work, we remain inspired by the smiles we saw and the connections we made during this project.

Wrapping up

World Kindness Day is a call to action for us all. Queen Luciano Foundation answered that call by spreading hope, warmth, and love in Akure and Benin City.

Remember that kindness is a ripple effect. Each act inspires another, creating an atmosphere of change that extends beyond what we can see. Together, we can make kindness a way of life and ensure that no one is forgotten. Let’s continue to celebrate kindness. It should not just be on one day, but every day. After all, the world needs more smiles, and it starts with us.
