One of the biggest challenges facing many Nigerians today is unemployment. Either there are limited jobs available for them, or many lack the skills necessary to secure sustainable jobs or start their own businesses. This poses a need for proactive steps towards equipping Nigerians with the skills and equipment needed to stand on their feet and work towards their financial freedom.
The government might be doing their best to empower the masses with the right skills but there is still a need for non-government and non-profit organisations, like the Queen Luciano Foundation (QLF), to assist in this respect. As its motto is to “build a strong foundation for the future,” the Queen Luciano Foundation went into the mission of equipping young minds with life-changing skills.
This is part of its September project. This article focuses on throwing more light on how this non-governmental and non-profit organisation empowered two people from Akure and Benin City respectively with a skill and equipment they will need to set themselves up.
Queen Luciano Foundation tackles unemployment with practical solutions
Unemployment has devastating effects on individuals and the broader community. With rising living costs in Nigeria, people need more than temporary relief to survive. They need real solutions that empower them for life. The Queen Luciano Foundation has always understood that the answer to long-term community upliftment is equipping people with a strong foundation. Getting practical skills is one way to do this.
In September, our Skill Acquisition and Empowerment initiative was aimed at addressing this very need. We worked to empower two individuals by teaching one a skill and getting the other equipment to help them start on the journey of financial independence, both now and in the future.
How we sponsored a youth to learn a skill
This month’s event was not just about training; it was about creating a ripple effect of empowerment. Queen Luciano Foundation collaborated with a skilled computer repairs engineer, OssyTech, to teach a vibrant youth, Gift, the ropes of repairing and maintaining computers.
Our goal was to create a supportive environment where he could learn, ask questions, and grow in confidence. By working closely with OssyTech,, Gift was positioned to get 6 months of hands-on mentorship that will lay a good foundation for his financial independence.
Fostering entrepreneurship through empowerment
To deepen the impact of this initiative, the foundation didn’t stop at training. As part of our appreciation to those who give back to their communities, we decided to empower one of our dedicated volunteers, in our Akure branch, with the tools necessary for success. A sewing machine was presented to Mrs Olajire Bukola as a means to set her up in the fashion and tailoring business.
We believe that providing tangible resources helps foster entrepreneurship. By giving this volunteer the means to earn a livelihood, we are not only changing one life, but we are also encouraging others to see what is possible with a little help and dedication. This approach aligns with our long-term strategy to help children, youths and women gain financial freedom.
The long-term vision: empowering generations
The ultimate goal of the Queen Luciano Foundation is to not only address immediate needs but to build a strong foundation for the future. Empowering one individual has the potential to uplift their entire families and even communities. Skill acquisition doesn’t just provide a job; it offers a foundation for building a future, developing confidence, and creating opportunities for others.
The September project’s initiative is part of a larger vision. A vision that sees every vulnerable child, youth and woman in our community, gaining access to the skills they need to lead successful, independent lives.
We are committed to offering continuous support to vulnerable women and children through similar programs, empowering women with financial support for their businesses, and providing needed resources to ensure that no one is left behind in the journey toward self-reliance.
Conclusion
At Queen Luciano Foundation, we believe that true empowerment comes from providing individuals with the tools and knowledge to change their circumstances. The September project’s skill acquisition initiative may have started with a training single child and empowering a a sewing machine, but its impact will ripple through our community for years to come.
By offering practical skills and supporting entrepreneurship, we are giving back to society. As we continue to grant wishes that will give hope to children, youth and women in need of assistance, we invite you all to join us in this transformative journey.
