Across the world, millions of girls still struggle with barriers that limit their access to education, health information, and opportunities for personal growth. Many are unaware of how crucial menstrual hygiene, digital literacy, and confidence are to shaping their futures.
If these gaps remain unaddressed, young girls risk growing up without the knowledge and empowerment needed to thrive in today’s evolving society. Recognizing this, Queen Luciano Foundation, Akure Branch, joined global efforts to celebrate the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child, focusing on education, health, and empowerment.
The event, held on October 17th, 2025, at Fiwasaye Girls Grammar School, Akure, brought together over 120 students, exceeding the initial target of 100 participants. It was a day filled with learning, laughter, and inspiration.
Igniting Conversations Around Health and Technology

The program began promptly at 8:30 a.m., and the atmosphere was vibrant with anticipation as students assembled for what turned out to be a truly enlightening experience.
The day’s sessions included a powerful lecture on Menstrual Hygiene, where facilitators discussed the importance of cleanliness, confidence, and open dialogue around menstrual health. The session helped demystify taboos surrounding menstruation and gave the girls a safe space to ask questions without fear or shame.

Representatives from Junior Chamber International (JCI), FuTA, then took the stage to lead an engaging Introduction to Technology session. They highlighted how technology is shaping the world and encouraged the girls to explore digital skills such as coding, design, and online learning platforms. The interactive nature of the talk inspired curiosity and motivated many students to see themselves as future innovators.

Interactive Sessions and Student Engagement
Beyond the formal lectures, the program incorporated games, discussions, and question-and-answer sessions to make learning enjoyable. The girls eagerly participated, demonstrating knowledge and curiosity about health and technology.

One of the most memorable moments came during a quick-fire Q&A segment, where students shared their thoughts on how education and technology can shape their future. Their answers reflected optimism, creativity, and a growing sense of empowerment.
To ensure everyone felt cared for, refreshments, including egg rolls and drinks, were provided, and sanitary pads were distributed to all participants as part of the foundation’s ongoing health support initiative.
Community Collaboration and Government Presence

The celebration received special recognition from the Ondo State Ministry of Education. A representative, Mr. Adesida, attended on behalf of the Commissioner for Education and the Governor of Ondo State, extending the government’s appreciation to Queen Luciano Foundation for its continued commitment to promoting education, wellness, and girl-child empowerment across the state.
His presence added a tone of validation and strengthened the partnership between public institutions and non-governmental organizations in advancing social impact programs.
A Grateful School and a Lasting Impression
After the main sessions, the foundation’s team paid a courtesy visit to the school principal, thanking the school for its warm hospitality and collaboration. The principal, in turn, expressed deep gratitude for choosing Fiwasaye Girls Grammar School as a host institution, emphasizing the program’s relevance to the students’ growth and development.
Before departing, the foundation captured the moment with group photographs featuring students, staff, volunteers, and JCI representatives, preserving the joyful spirit of the day.

The 2025 International Day of the Girl Child celebration at Fiwasaye Girls Grammar School was more than just an event, it was a reminder of what is possible when organizations come together to invest in the next generation of women.
Through lectures, discussions, and direct engagement, the program empowered girls to take charge of their health, embrace technology, and envision a future filled with possibilities.
